Scouting Harvard at Lakes

Harvard (1-0) at Lakes (1-0)

When: 7:30 p.m., today

Last week: Harvard def. Big Foot (Wis.), 15-7; Lakes def. Chicago Perspectives, 40-8.

Outlook: After a taxing trip to Chicago's South Side last weekend, Lakes is glad to be home, sweet home. But don't expect the Eagles to get too comfortable. Not with a rough and tough Harvard team that finished 7-3 last year coming to town. "The team we played last week is nowhere near at the level of physicality that we'll face in Harvard this week," Lakes coach Luke Mertens said. "We're going to get a much better read of where we are as a team this week. Harvard is extremely physical on both sides of the ball and they've got plenty of size on the line. They've also got a couple of running backs who will be as good as we face all year."-The Eagles also have some good running backs themselves, starting with senior James Zell. Zell rolled up 109 yards on 12 carries against Perspectives last week. He scored 3 touchdowns and also caught 2 passes that totaled 42 yards. "Harvard has a tough defense and we're really going to have to run the ball well against them," Mertens said. "They like to run, too. Whoever does that better will win the game."-The Eagles, however, have an additional weapon in their arsenal. Senior kicker Mike Beckman booted a 47-yard field goal last week and has been spot-on in practice. He could be the difference maker.
