Scouting Huntley at Woodstock

Huntley (1-2) at Woodstock (1-2)

When: 7:15 p.m. Friday at Larry Dale Field

Last year: Woodstock 27, Huntley 24

Last week: Huntley 20, Woodstock North 7; Cary-Grove 48, Woodstock 6

Outlook: The Red Raiders go for their second straight win in a Fox Valley Conference crossover. Last week, Huntley coach Matt Gehrig changed the team's base offense from the spread to the I-formation. Senior quarterback Tim Lycos now lines up under center instead of in the shotgun, backed by senior running back Chris Cunningham and junior Jordan Hyatt. Those backs combined last week for 23 carries, 109 yards and 3 touchdowns. "Philosophy-wise, we were happy to get back to more of a downhill running game plan, and it was something our kids were excited about," Gehrig said. "Jordan Hyatt was a guy who we felt needed to get on the field more. He has worked really hard and we felt, based on the things we've seen him do, his ability would fit the position." The I-formation will take some of the pressure off quarterback Tim Lycos, normally the focal point of opposing defenses, Gehrig said. Woodstock defeated Grayslake North 24-21 in Week 2 but otherwise lost to Prairie Ridge and Cary-Grove by a combined score of 103-6. The Blue Streaks hold a 4-2 series advantage since Huntley joined the Fox Valley Conference in 2003. Woodstock has won the last two meetings.
