Leyden rallies past Morton

Leyden needed a spark to avoid losing its fourth straight football game when it hosted Morton on Friday night in Northlake.

The Eagles (2-3, 1-2) got the big plays they needed as Joey DiFronzo threw 3 touchdown passes in a 26-15 West Suburban Gold victory. They trailed 15-7 at halftime and 15-13 going into the fourth quarter.

DiFronzo hit Mike Weimerskirch with the go-ahead 65-yard touchdown pass and Steve Travis finished off the victory by returning an interception for a score.

DiFronzo also threw a 29-yard touchdown pass to Jeff Renteria and hit Steven Lindahl for a touchdown. Diego Moreno helped disrupt the offense for Morton (2-3, 1-2), which got one of its touchdowns on an interception return.

"Our defense was outstanding and we moved the ball quite a bit," said Leyden coach Tom Cerasani.
