Leyden shuts out Proviso East

Leyden has been tough defensively and Proviso East has been having a tough time offensively this season.

It added up to the second straight shutout for the Eagles (4-3, 3-2) as they rolled to a 35-0 West Suburban Gold victory Friday in Northlake.

“We did what we were supposed to do, said Leyden coach Tom Cerasani. “Now we have to figure out how to win one of these last two.

Leyden won its third straight and needs to beat Lyons or Addison Trail to clinch a second straight playoff berth. Proviso East (0-7, 0-4) was shutout for the fifth time and has scored only 18 points all season.

Justin Bolo rushed for 153 yards and a touchdown on 30 carries. Backup quarterback Sebastian Chrzaszesz rushed for two TDs after Joey DiFronzo suffered a sprained thumb late in the first half.

DiFronzo wasn’t able to grip the ball but Cerasani said expected him to be OK.

Andres Orrego also had a 77-yard TD return for the Eagles, who were led defensively by linebacker Nelson Lugo.
