Rain postpones Northbrook’s Legion opener

Northbrook’s opening game in the American Legion Great Lakes regional baseball tournament in Midland, Mich., was postponed Thursday because of rain. Northbrook (43-10), the Cook County champion, is tentatively scheduled to play host Midland at 9 a.m. Friday at Northwood University.

Illinois state champion Moline (43-7) lost its opener 4-1 to Adrian (Mich.) and is scheduled to play an elimination game at 9 a.m. Friday.

Wittkamp to Augustana: Schaumburg graduate Bronson Wittkamp will be attending and playing baseball at Augustana University in Rock Island. Wittkamp graduated this spring and pitched for the Saxons’ Class 4A supersectional qualifier.

Gundersen joins Illini: Rolling Meadows graduate Ryan Gundersen made the Illinois football roster as a walk-on wide receiver. The versatile Gundersen was a Daily Herald All-Area pick last fall as the Mustangs made the 6A state playoffs.
