Elgin High to celebrate Memorial’s 50th

Elgin High School and the Elgin High Booster Club invite all area veterans to take part in the 50th anniversary celebration for Memorial Field prior to the varsity football game between the Maroons and St. Charles East on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

Veterans will be admitted free of admission and treated to a free lunch of Italian beef and Italian sausage, bratwurst, hot dogs and chicken breast sandwiches.

Each veteran will be recognized before the game as he/she is escorted to the center of the field by an Elgin High student-athlete.

Elgin mayor Dave Kaptain and Elgin Area School District U-46 superintendent Dr. Jose Torres are expected to take part in a tree-planting dedication.

Festivities include performances by the school’s marching band and choir. A color guard comprised of local veterans will present the flag for the national anthem.

All fans will be treated to 50 percent off concession stand items, as well as 50-cent coffee and popcorn. Also, 50 commemorative T-shirts will be given away.

Veterans are asked to arrive by 12:30 p.m. and follow the signs to the designated parking area and gate entrance.
