Carmel drops OT thriller in Joliet

Joliet Catholic 31, Carmel Catholic 24 (OT): At Joliet Memorial Stadium, USC-bound Ty Isaac scored from 5 yards out in overtime, and Zack Jackovich’s goal-line interception ended the East Suburban Catholic Conference thriller.

The loss eliminated Carmel (2-5, 2-3) from playoff contention for the first time since 1999.

Isaac finished with 219 rushing yards on 30 carries for Joliet Catholic (5-2, 4-1), which led 24-17 with less than four minutes left. But Nick Grandolfo’s 1-yard touchdown run capped a 74-yard drive for the Corsairs to force OT.

Carmel had a chance to win at the end of regulation, but strong-legged Steven O’Block missed a 41-yard field goal attempt. O’Block had kicked a 41-yarder earlier in the game.

Carmel got strong games on the ground from Josh Walinski and Tim Serio, who rushed for 174 and 127 yards, respectively.
