Larkin's Schabert to play in International Bowl

Larkin senior Alex Schabert, a two-time Daily Herald all-area offensive lineman and three-time all-Upstate Eight Conference selection, has been selected to play in the FBU International Bowl in San Antonio, Tex., on Jan. 5.

The FBU International Bowl is a new event that will feature 160 football athletes 19 and under as well as 25 coaches.

Schabert, a 6-foot-2, 325-pounder, will be the starting center for the United States team when it plays a team from British Columbia, Canada. The game will be played at the Alamodome.

Schabert is the only Illinois player on the United States' starting roster.

The Larkin athletic department is soliciting donations to help defray the cost of Schabert's trip. Interested parties can contact the athletic department at (847) 888-5200.
