The kid from the Mid-Suburban East is lighting it up for Eastern.

Jimmy Garoppolo, who led the Rolling Meadows football team to a MSL East championship his senior year, is now leading Eastern Illinois as a senior in college.

Garoppolo took New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton out of the EIU record book on Saturday against Illinois State when he completed 26-of-41 passes for 480 yards and 7 touchdowns in a 57-24 victory. Garoppolo's 763 career completions passed Payton's mark of 756.

For the season, Garoppolo is 91-for-143 passing for 1,281 yards and 14 touchdowns whole helping the Panthers to a 3-0 start.

At Meadows, he passed for 1,888 yards and 16 touchdowns as a senior and also rushed for 563 yards and 7 touchdowns.

As a junior, he passing for 2,072 yards and 18 touchdowns while completing 152 of 253 passes. He also added 552 yards and 7 touchdowns on the ground that season at Meadows.

Garoppolo and the Panthers' game on Saturday at Northern Illinois in DeKalb will be carried on ESPN3 at 6 p.m.

Men's soccer

Millikin's Zach Solorio (Elk Grove) had the Blue's only goal in a 4-1 loss to Central College in Decatur.

Women's cross country

Augustana junior Rebecca Sund (Palatine) was named the "Runner of the Week" in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin with her performance at the Bradley Intercollegiate Invitational at Detweiller Park in Peoria. Sund claimed the individual title and led the Vikings to the team championship in the college division. She recorded a time of 17:57 over the 3-mile course, which was 14 seconds in front of junior teammate Jessica Bacon, who finished second. Augustana won the 10-team meet with 19 points.

Elk Grove feeder basketball

The Elk Grove girls basketball feeder program is looking for volunteers to help coach girls feeder basketball.

Women's volleyball

Millikin's Sara Travis (Schaumburg) had 11 kills for the Big Blue (5-3) in a 3-2 victory over Edgewood College.

She also had 10 against Bethel and 15 against Northwestern University-St. Paul 3-2.

Rugby

Curious about rugby ? Looking to join a Girls High School or Girls Middle School club? Then, join the Illinois Youth Rugby Association for an afternoon of rugby fun and fitness. Girls Day of Rugby will take place on Sunday Oct. 6 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Olympic Park in Schaumburg (1675 E. Old Schaumburg Road). Women's golf

Augustana placed second with a score of 355 in the 11-team Benedictine Invitaional, just 14 strokes shy of champion Monmouth (341). First-year head coach Tom Lawrence split his team up for the meet and the designated "A" team was led by freshman Jenny Geraghty (Prospect) with a fourth-place finish of 80. She had a front nine of 39 and a back nine of 41.

The tournament was originally scheduled to be a two-day affair but was shortened to just one day because of rain on Sunday.

Women's soccer

Augustana freshman Jessa Rizzo (Fremd) has scored 4 goals with 2 assists (10 points) for the undefeated Vikings (5-0-1).

• Millikin's Sarah Christy (Schaumburg) had the first goal for the Big Blue (2-1) in a 3-2 overtime win at Earlham College in Richmond, Ind. Millikin's Jenna Eaker (Schaumburg) scored the first goal on an assist from Sarah Christy (Schaumburg) in the Big Blue's 2-1 loss to Rose Hulman.

Arlington Stallions Rugby Club

After a disappointing loss to the South Side Irish Academy (50-7) to start the Fall season the week before, the Stallions High School FallBall squad rebounded on Saturday with a solid victory over the Peoria Gators, 61-21.

The Stallions were led by a mixture of their most experienced and first-season players.

Starting his sixth year of playing rugby, junior Winston Derry (Wheeling High School) was named by the coaching staff as Man-of-the-Match for his sound fundamental play at two different key positions, flanker and fly-half.

Prospect juniors Christos Analitis and Aiden Williams each scored multiple tries and juniors Dave Woloch (Prospect) and Ricky Gonzalez (Hersey) each played well in their respective first and second games with the club.

On Saturday, the Stallions will travel to Lemont to play the Waubonsie Chiefs.

Women's cross country

North Central senior Nora Ferguson (Schaumburg) had the best time for Cardinals when they finished second in seven-team Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawk Invitational. Ferguson's time of 23:19 was good enough for fifth overall and third among collegiate competitors.

Women's tennis

Augustana freshman Lauren Goggin (Buffalo Grove) is 5-0 this year at No. 2 singles and her twin sister Dana (Buffalo Grove) is 3-0 at No. 3. The twins have also posted a 4-1 record in doubles, alternating at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.

Men's cross country

Hope College senior Sameul Pederson (Prospect) was the MIAA Runner of the Week. Pederson finished ninth overall at the Calvin College Knight Invitational hosted by Calvin with a time of 25:32 over the 8-kilometer course.

Pederson is being honored as MIAA Runner of the Week for the first time in his career.
