Prate’s big effort powers ISU victory

After helping Illinois State University’s football team to a 28-14 victory over South Dakota on Saturday, junior defensive tackle Bradon Prate (Wauconda) was named the Missouri Valley Conference defensive player of the week.

The honor is the first for Prate in his career at ISU and the first for a Redbird player this season.

Prate did it all for the Redbirds on defense against the Coyotes. He recorded 3 tackles, a sack, broke up 3 passes at the line of scrimmage and intercepted his first career pass to cap off an impressive performance. On Prate’s final pass deflection, the ball fell back into his arms for an interception, which he returned 43 yards to the South Dakota 21-yard line late in the fourth quarter.

The ISU defense allowed just 116 yards rushing to USD and forced a trio of turnovers to go along with a season-high 10 passes broken up.
