Daily Herald, Shaw launching “Chicago Football” magazine

The Daily Herald and Shaw Media are teaming to launch a new magazine and website focusing on all levels of football in the Chicago area.

Chicago Football will feature the expert analysis of Hub Arkush, former Pro Football Weekly writer Kevin Fishbain, Daily Herald Chicago Bears beat writer Bob LeGere and fantasy football columnist John Dietz.

The first edition of Chicago Football will publish in early April, and will highlight the Chicago Bears' preparation for the 2014 NFL draft. While the Bears will be a focus, the magazine also will cover other NFL stories, as well as local college and prep football programs.

“It's going to be a comprehensive guide to football on every level,” said Scott Stone, executive vice president and general manager of Daily Herald Media Group.

“Something we do well, and something Shaw does well, is prep football, so we're excited to be able to incorporate preps into this.”

In print, Chicago Football will be a glossy magazine published weekly during the football season, and monthly in the offseason.

A companion website, ChicagoFootball.com, will provide additional content, including more in-depth news and analysis of the Bears, coverage of the NFC North division and all 32 NFL teams, and analysis of local high school and college programs.

Subscription information is available on the website.

In addition to traditional game coverage, the magazine and website will have features and enterprise stories on prep teams that won't be found anywhere else in the market.

“It's a unique product,” Stone said.

The magazine is a part of Daily Herald Media Group's ongoing effort to diversify its products through Niche Publications, which includes the Business Ledger, the bilingual Reflejos, and numerous chamber of commerce publications.
