New book explores Aurora's long-running prep football rivalry

The first definitive history of the oldest football rivalry in Illinois, "Aurora's East-West Football Rivalry" by Steve Solarz, will be released Aug. 1 as part of an Aurora Historical Society event.

Solarz will sign copies of the book from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Pierce Art and History Center, 20 E. Downer Place.

The book is illustrated and covers 120 years of the sport as played at East and West Aurora high schools.

"Rivalry," which costs $19.99 plus tax, will not be shipped to retail stores until later in the month, but is available starting Aug. 1 at the Museum Store at the Pierce Center.

The release party is part of First Fridays in Downtown Aurora, a gallery walk.

The Pierce Art and History Center currently features the historical society exhibits "Play Ball, Aurora!" and "Aurora Story" and a public art commission exhibit, "Jazz Occurrence."
