Lake Park notches another win

Lake Park moved to 2-0 on the season after a 25-6 road win over nonconference opponent Lockport on Friday night.

Lancers quarterback Michael Perry orchestrated the game's first scoring drive midway through the opening quarter. He took his team 49 yards on seven plays that culminated in a 26-yard touchdown pass to Tommie Jackson over the middle on fourth down.

Lockport's offense took over and marched into Lancer territory after quarterback Jeremy Quade hit Sean Kelley deep, who juggled the ball and hauled it in for a 50-yard gain to the Lake Park 30.

Three plays later however, sophomore defensive end Jacub Panasiuk intercepted Quade on a screen pass and returned the ball to Lockport's 32-yard line.

Five plays later, Lake Park took a 14-0 lead on an 8-yard touchdown run by Kenny Jones with 56 seconds left in the first quarter.

Following a 30-minute lightning delay, the Lancers increased their lead to 16-0 when Quade, buried deep in his own territory, was called for intentional grounding after he scrambled into his end zone and threw the ball into mpty territory, resulting in a Lake Park safety.

Jackson took the ensuing kickoff 42 yards to Lockport's 26 and three plays later, Perry and Jackson connected again for their second touchdown on a 12-yard wide receiver screen with 7:50 left in the first half. Lockport got on the scoreboard when Kelley jumped over his defender and hauled in a 43-yard scoring pass from Quade with seven minutes left in the second quarter, cutting the deficit to 22-6.

The Lancers extended their lead to 25-6 on their opening drive of the second half when Cameron Van Aswegen connected on a 24-yard field goal.

Lake Park's Melvin Smiley fumbled on a draw play at the Lancers' 12-yard line with nine minutes left in the game, but the Lancer defense kept the Porters off the scoreboard, forcing them into a turnover on downs with a stop at the Lockport 4-yard line.
