Huntley runs over Elgin

Going into its nonconference matchup with Elgin, Huntley was worried about Maroons' quarterback Terrance Miller-Allen. The athletic quarterback made some plays, but Huntley quarterback Anthony Binetti and the Red Raiders' stable of running backs made more. A lot more.

Casey Haayer scored twice and, in all, 8 different players scored as Huntley handed the Maroons a 63-8 defeat Friday in Huntley.

Michael Walker picked off Miller-Allen's first pass and returned it 25 yards for a touchdown, getting the Red Raiders off on the right foot.

Miller-Allen briefly gave the Maroons the lead with a nifty 33-yard TD pass to Elijah Bonds and another pass to Jordan Smith for the 2-point conversion. But that was it for the Maroons, as Huntley rattled off 56 straight points.

Haayer scored on runs of 14 and 6 yards. Binetti, Kyle Kesul, Eric Mooney, Zachary Peter, Jacob Witt, and Kyle Zender also scored for the Red Raiders, who built a 56-8 halftime lead.

"I think we showed a lot of improvement, we adjusted to things," said Huntley coach John Hart. "We've still got a lot of things to work on. We're not even close to being as good as we can be."

It was a frustrating night for Elgin, but there were a few bright spots.

"We improved on some things: last week 150 yards in penalties, I don't know what we had in the second half, but in the first half we only had 6," said Elgin coach Kyle Rohde. "We only turned the ball over twice. Those things we worked on in practice and made improvement in that kind of stuff."

Huntley's defense harassed Miller-Allen all night, with Tim McCloyn leading a squad that sacked him 5 times and pressured him constantly.

Miller-Allen was able to escape the pressure often enough to complete 12 of 24 passes for 159 yards, hitting 8 different receivers. But the Maroons (0-2) could never get their ground game untracked. Huntley (2-0) outrushed them 207-0 in the first half.

Huntley for its part had 4 different players rush for at least 40 yards, led by backup quarterback James Ambrose with 63. Haayer finished with 59, Mooney added 53 and Binetti ran for 43 while passing for 65 more.
