Hill, Antioch pick up speed against Round Lake

With temperatures dipping into the 40s Friday night at Antioch, you couldn't help but think about the upcoming winter months and popular winter destinations.

Many travel to Colorado for their world famous ski resorts. But Breckenridge and Vail had nothing on the scenes at Antioch High School, namely the downhill running of Griffin Hill and the host Sequoits.

Hill made the field his slalom course, racking up 192 yards and 4 touchdowns, helping Antioch bury visiting Round Lake 53-0 in a North Suburban Prairie Division opener.

Hill's outstanding work was done in the first half. Following the blocks of his offensive line on the Sequoits' first offensive play, Hill raced 43 yards to open the scoring. After quarterback Dan Meade scored from 5 yards out following a Round Lake fumble, Hill tallied three of the next four touchdowns for Antioch (2-1, 1-0 in Prairie) with scampers from 44, 3, and 14 yards out.

"Griffin's a special player," said Antioch coach Brian Glashagel. "I don't believe that he has had a 4-touchdown game in his career."

"Our offensive line did a great job today as there was lot of space," said Hill. "Every single time I got the ball, there was always a hole to look for. As a running back, you like to have options, not just one thing. If the offensive line plays like they did tonight then we are going to do good."

Hill came close to adding a fifth touchdown but had the ball stripped from behind. Luckily, Weston Cox was running with Hill and scooped up the loose pigskin and fell into the end zone.

"I was not sure whether or not to be happy or upset after that play," said Hill. "I was unhappy with the fumble but then I saw Weston scoop it up and I was really happy he got the touchdown. But a fumble is never good in the statbook, but it was a good thing in the end."

Jacob Lanahan also busted off a 48-yard touchdown scamper of his own.

"The conference is a very realistic goal for this team," said Meade. "With the way the offensive line played and with the defense playing phenomenal, the future looks bright."

Round Lake (1-2, 0-1) was without the services of Cole Steger and had trouble getting anything going against the Sequoits defense. Ron Steadman played the whole game at quarterback and several fumbles did not help matters for the Panthers in finding an offensive rhythm.

"We got into a big hole," said Round Lake coach Jordan Eder. "We made too many mistakes. We need to start focusing on the little things and the little details."
