Jacobs manhandles Young

Total domination.

Led by 4 first-half touchdowns from Josh Walker, Jacobs scored 42 unanswered points during the first 24 minutes and easily cruised to a 42-0 win over Chicago Whitney Young in nonconference action in Algonquin Friday night.

"We wanted to give 100 percent to start the game and get off to a fast start," said Walker. "The field was slippery and we didn't want to give them any chance."

Walker, who played only the first half, ran for 160 yards on 16 carries. The senior speedster scored on runs of 9, 62, 5 and 26 yards as the Golden Eagles ran for 317 yards. Jacobs, which scored 21 points in each of the first 2 quarters, had 18 first downs.

"Playing only the first half, we wanted to get Josh some touches early," said Jacobs coach Bill Mitz. "We came out as a team with a lot of intensity and got off to a great start."

The Golden Eagles (2-1) got an excellent effort from sophomore quarterback Chris Katrenick.

Katrenick, who played only the first half, completed 4-of-5 passes for 143 yards which included a 64 yard score to Camden McLain. Katrenick also scored on a 5-yard run.

"Chris has a lot of poise for a sophomore and he is getting better each week," said Mitz. "He is running the offense well and is throwing the ball well. He is not a sophomore anymore. He is gaining experience every game."

Like the offense, the defense played at a high level all night long. The Dolphins (1-2), who only got past midfield twice, mustered only 4 first downs, 1 in the first half. Young only managed 66 yards of offense, 9 yards rushing and 57 via the airwaves.

Starting quarterback sophomore Jalen Frizzell, who was sacked 5 times for minus 36 yards, completed only 2-of-9 passes for 16 yards.

Senior David Craan, who played the second half at quarterback, completed 2-of-5 passes for 43 yards, Combined Frizzell and Craan were 4-of-14 for 57 yards.

The Golden Eagles' defense registered 5 sacks, 3 by massive defensive end Jamal Wilson.

"Jamal is a very good football player and he does a good job of getting to the quarterback," said Mitz. "I like the way we played as a defense tonight. We did a good job of flying to the ball."
