Lake Zurich impresses at Zion-Benton

Lake Zurich football coach Dave Proffitt know why his football team is a consistent winner.

"I think it's attitude," said Proffitt. "Our coaching staff is all on the same page."

So were Lake Zurich's players Friday night.

The Bears traveled to Zion and crushed an improved Zion-Benton squad 40-6 in a North Suburban Lake Division game.

Bears running back Zane Lodico led the way by scoring 2 touchdowns and rushing for 126 yards. Zach Hilt picked up 94 rushing yards, 78 coming on a second-quarter touchdown sprint. All 40 Lake Zurich points came in the first half.

Lake Zurich (3-2, 2-1) rushed for 225 total yards, while its defense came up with 5 interceptions.

"There was some good blocking by our offensive line," Hilt said of his TD run. "I saw the opening and just went."

Lodico's first touchdown came in the middle of the first quarter, as he dove in from 1 yard out. His second TD came late in the second quarter from 6 yards away.

Lake Zurich quarterback Joey Lindstrom threw 2 touchdown passes to Ben Klett.

Zion-Benton's Marcese Gonzalez rushed for 121 yards and scored the lone TD for the Zee-Bees (3-2, 1-1) in the final minute of the game.

"We played better in the second half," Zion-Benton coach Bob Moynihan said.
