Jacobs rolls over Dundee-Crown for 4th straight win

Fox Valley Conference defensive coordinators beware. Jacobs sophomore quarterback Chris Katrenick is going to be around for a while.

Katrenick, who completed his first 9 passes, ended with a 11-for-14 effort and 203 yards and 3 touchdown passes as Jacobs blitzed Dundee-Crown 56-16 in the Fox Valley Conference Valley Division opener for both teams in Alqonquin Friday night.

"Chris is progressing every game," said Jacobs coach Bill Mitz. "He isn't a sophomore anymore. He is handling the offense well and he is making plays."

Katrenick's touchdown passes went to Camden McLain (65 yards), Josh Walker (31 yards) and Kyle Copeland (17 yards).

"I feel more comfortable every game," said Katrenick. "I have so many weapons to work with and a great offensive line. I have been sacked only once this season."

The Golden Eagles (4-1, 1-0), who have won 4 in a row after dropping their opener against Barrington, scored 28 first-quarter points and reached pay dirt on their first 5 possessions.

The D-C defense couldn't stop the multitalented Walker, who scored 5 touchdowns, one on a pass and the others on runs of 4, 34, 11 and 71 yards. He gained 185 yards on 11 carries and caught 2 passes for 38 yards.

'We wanted to get off to a great start and the offensive line did a great job of opening holes," said Walker. "It was nice to be involved in the passing game."

Mitz is glad to have Walker on his team.

"Josh is a very gifted player," said Mitz. "He is a great runner with great speed. We hope to get him more involved with the passing game as the season goes on."

McLain led the Golden Eagles with 6 catches for 132 yards.

D-C (2-3, 0-1), losers of 3 straight, scored all of its points in the first half.

Senior Malik Dunner, who has committed to Ball State, gained 101 yards on 16 carries including a 64-yard TD on his first carry of the night.

Chargers' quarterback Jeff Atherton, who was 16-of-28 for 161 yards, tossed a 21-yard TD pass to Alonzo Alvarado.

Ray Turskey added a 35-yard field goal for the Chargers and Kiwi Seals caught 8 passes for 95 yards.

"Consistency has been the story of our season the last three weeks, said D-C coach Mike Steinhaus. "We are just not a good tackling program. That is something we have to work on."
