Rolling Meadows lines up another victory

Rolling Meadows' offensive line proved to be too much for visiting Prospect on Thursday night.

The Mustangs piled up 428 of their 540 yards on the ground in handling Prospect 46-13 in Mid-Suburban East play.

"Week by week, they are gaining confidence," said Mustangs coach Matt Mishler. "I knew we had some good players. They were a work in progress and each week they get better and better. This was step two to win the East Division. We know next week against Buffalo Grove it will be a dogfight."

Grant Palmer, Francisco Trejo, Jake Own, Greg Off and Jake Maloney helped key the offense for Rolling Meadows (5-1, 2-0 MSL East).

"We just go hard in practice every day," said senior center Trejo. "There is a lot of hustle, heart and brotherhood with this group. As the center I need to know all the blocking schemes that the others do on each play. This group puts in a lot of work studying film and working hard."

Quarterback RJ Mattucci benefitted early by passing for a 38-yard touchdown to Jack Swindells in the first quarter. Mattucci threw only 7 times with 4 completions good for 112 yards.

Mattucci also scored on runs of 9, 10, and 12 yards as the Mustangs bolted out to a 26-7 lead after three quarters.

Running back Antonio Atencio had a breakout game with 163 yards on 17 attemps, including a 43-yard touchdown run.

"It took me a little bit of time to get in gear running the ball," said Atencio. "I give a lot of credit to the offensive line. As they get better, I get better. But I give credit to our scout team. They do a lot to prepare us for each week's game. A game like this for me will only help me gain more confidence."

The Knights (0-6, 0-2) scored on Vincent Lai's 7-yard run to cut the score to 13-7 in the second quarter. Michael Tomasetti's 28-yard run late in the fourth quarter was the other Prospect score.

Prospect picked up 283 yard on offense.

"We did some good things tonight," said Prospect coach Mike Sebestyen. "What we want to do over our last three games is to just improve our game."

Linebacker/reserve quarterback Luka Pavlakis carried the ball twice and scored on touchdown runs of 29 and 84 in the fourth quarter.

Defensive back Devante Amos had 2 interceptions, Ryan Kobus had one and Nick Delporte had a fumble recovery for the Mustangs.
