Football: Week 7 MVPs

St. Francis senior quarterback Clint Bobowski and Hersey senior defensive back Cole Monckton have earned Daily Herald MVP honors for their performances in Week 7 of the high school football season.

Bobowski ran for 137 yards and passed for 276 in St. Francis' 31-7 victory over Montini; Monckton returned an interception the length of the field in Hersey's win over Elk Grove.

OFFENSE

Clint Bobowski, St. Francis: The 6-foot, 180-pound quarterback accounted for 94 percent of his team's offense and all 4 touchdowns in a 31-7 Chicago Catholic League Green victory over Montini. The senior ran for 137 yards with 5- and 1-yard touchdowns. He completed 17 of 25 passes for 276 yards and 70- and 16-yard touchdowns.

Griffin Hill, Antioch: Hill has had a heck of a season running the football. In the Sequoits' 72-7 win over North Chicago, the junior running back returned a kickoff for a touchdown for the third time this season and also rushed for 3 scores. He has 21 TDs.

Derek Kumerow, South Elgin: This agile, sure-handed junior helped the Storm playoff push with a clutch performance in South Elgin's 42-36 victory over visiting Glenbard East. The 6-foot-3, 180-pound wide receiver made 9 catches for 196 yards. In addition to touchdown receptions of 21 and 47 yards, Kumerow hauled in a 29-yard strike from Hayden Nelson with 1:12 remaining to put South Elgin (4-3) ahead to stay.

Scotty Miller, Barrington: The senior receiver/defensive back and special teams standout has had a penchant for big plays, but even by his standards the performance in the Broncos' victory at Hoffman Estates was noteworthy. Miller ran the ball once and it went for a 59-yard touchdown; he also caught 3 passes for 119 yards, which included touchdown catches of 38 and 61 yards as Barrington improved to 7-0.

Darryl Watkins, West Aurora: Converting Hayden Sak's snap and Philip Mallory's hold, with 6 seconds left in the fourth quarter against unbeaten and highly ranked Waubonsie Valley the 5-foot-11, 165-pound junior kicked a game-tying, 36-yard field goal. In double-overtime Watkins' 28-yard field goal won the UEC Valley game 27-24.

DEFENSE

Cole Monckton, Hersey: Monckton picked a great spot for his MSL-best fifth interception of the season, returning one the length of the football field for a touchdown in Hersey's 42-7 victory over Elk Grove. The senior defensive back also made 5 tackles and knocked down 3 passes. He was a force on offense as well, finishing with a pair of TD receptions that covered 98 yards.

Jordan Glasgow, Marmion: The 6-foot-1, 200-pound senior impacted all three phases in Marmion's 49-13 Chicago Catholic League Green win over De La Salle. Glasgow recovered fumbles on consecutive kickoffs to help grab a quick 14-0 lead. The safety led Marmion with 6 tackles and defended 2 passes, scoring twice at running back.

Jake Kapp, Glenbard South: The Raiders leaned on their Kapp-led defense in a 20-7 Metro Suburban West win over Aurora Central Catholic. The 5-foot-10, 195-pound junior linebacker notched 12 tackles, a sack, 3 tackles for loss, forced a fumble and returned a fumbled punt 30 yards for a critical touchdown.

Ben Kimpler, Libertyville: The 6-foot-6 junior defensive end has stood all season long and displayed his athleticism again in the Wildcats' homecoming game against Mundelein. He recovered 2 fumbles and notched 8 tackles, including a sack, as the Wildcats won 55-0.

Josh Von Rohr, St. Edward: This 6-foot-1, 185-pound defensive end terrorized Ridgewood's offense throughout a 38-0 homecoming victory. The senior led undefeated St. Edward to its seventh win and second straight shutout with a season-high 9 tackles. Von Rohr registered 3 sacks, increasing his team-best total to 10.
