Meet an offensive lineman: Glenbard East's Ben Sullivan

In the trenches with...

Glenbard East's Ben Sullivan

Year: Senior

Best thing about being an offensive lineman: When the offense is rolling you know it's the offensive line. And also being able to make a big block on a trap play, it's just a good feeling knowing they're running behind you. And the relationships you form with your other offensive line teammates.

Worst thing about being an offensive lineman: Probably not being able to carry the ball. Plus, you don't get to tackle anybody. But I did get tackles in the last two games.

Don't tell my coach that: I still should be playing linebacker. (Sullivan played middle linebacker as a freshman.)

If I could change one thing about football: I'd try to make the game safer, to prevent head injuries. I have younger cousins who play and I'd like to make it safer for them.

Team not on our schedule I wish we could play: Probably Montini. They're across town, I know a lot of the guys on the team and I'm friends with them. Plus they're one of the top teams in the state and it'd be a great challenge.

How I'll celebrate if I score a TD: Definitely “schmoney” (dance) with my teammates.

Twitter, Facebook or Instagram: I like Twitter. It's the best way to communicate with teammates and colleges.

What I like best about my school: The school spirit. Me and all my teammates had hoped our record would be better, but everyone still comes and supports our team, which is pretty cool.

Something about me that would surprise you: I'm a huge dog lover, actually. I don't have a dog, but I'll take any opportunity to dog-sit.

Other sports I play: I throw shot put and discus in track. I used to wrestle.

Favorite actor: Probably Will Ferrell. He's hilarious in everything he's in.

Favorite actress: Scarlett Johansson. She's great in “The Avengers.”

Favorite athlete: Derrick Rose. I respect his perseverance and his will to win.

Favorite musician: I don't have a favorite musician, but I do enjoy rock, rap and alternative music.

The Stat:

651

That's the total yardage on 20 combined punts in Friday's 7-3 Wheaton Warrenville South victory over Glenbard North. The Tigers' Kevin Domek punted 10 times for 310 yards while Glenbard North's Phil Partipilo had 8 punts for 283 yards and Steve Adamatis added 2 punts for 58 yards.

The Quote:

“Yes, oh, gosh yes. You always have those thoughts going through your mind when you're throwing the deep ball, especially when it's like a minute left in the game. I'm just happy he came down with it. It was the play of the game there.”

— Waubonsie Valley quarterback Zack Bennema, worried he'd overthrown teammate Keaton Casey on a 32-yard touchdown pass with 1:18 left to beat Neuqua Valley 35-28.
