Glenbard West ends regular season undefeated

Glenbard West continued its complete football domination over the West Suburban Silver with a 48-7 victory at York.

The Hilltoppers took the lead on the very first play from scrimmage when Sam Brodner took a pitch 80 yards for a touchdown. Glenbard West (9-0, 6-0) never looked back as it completed an undefeated regular season.

"I was happy with the way we played tonight," Glenbard West coach Chad Hetlet said. "We started fast, we played great defensively the entire night."

That defense held York scoreless the entire game. The Dukes' only points came off a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown from Lucas Alexander. The Hilltoppers also intercepted York quarterback John Dicanio four times.

Coming in to the game it was York that seemingly had the most to play for. With a win the Dukes (4-5, 1-5) would be playoff eligible.

However, first-year coach Matt Monken said he hopes to build his program to the level Glenbard West now enjoys.

The Hilltoppers will head into the playoffs as a likely top seed. Hetlet said his team wasn't playing for seeding, but instead to take care of another conference opponent.

Hetlet's offense dominated the game with little need of the passing game. Outside of one deep completion from quarterback Kyle Kramer, the offense was led by the rushing attack. Including Brodner four different running backs found the end zone. Isaiah Skinner scored twice, along with Donahvon Vaughn and George Mugnani.

With its playoff opponent unknown until the pairings are released Saturday night, Hetlet warned his team to be ready for a possible rematch with another conference team. He said he hopes his team can build on the regular season but will have to wait to see what the postseason has in store.

With York's season over, Monken said he hopes Glenbard West can represent the conference well.

"They are a great team, our conference has a lot of good teams. I think it prepares them for the playoffs, which is why they've had great success," Monken said.
