Iwema, Warren pick off Zion-Benton

Warren linebacker Cole Iwema and defensive end Bryan Nolan each finished the regular season in fine fashion, as they led the Blue Devils to a 42-0 shutout of host Zion-Benton Friday night.

Warren finished the regular season with 7-2 record and 5-2 in the North Suburban Lake Division.

"Our defense has been playing well all season long," Blue Devils first year coach Bryan McNulty said. "We had to work on some things and we really haven't given up a ton of points."

Iwema had the best game of his career with 3 interceptions, returning them for a total of 75 yards.

"It was a great defensive game for us tonight," Iwema said. "(Zion-Benton's) offense didn't make any moves on us so it was easy for me to catch the ball. I wish I could have broken one (for a touchdown), but I just didn't make the right moves."

"Cole is one of one of the most dynamic players on the team," McNulty said. "People don't know about him."

Nolan finished with 2 sacks and 7 tackles overall.

"Bryan has played hard all year," McNulty said. "He has been a leader on defense."

Warren quarterback Jay Nickell and wide receiver Caleb Reams hooked up on touchdown passes of 38 yards and 47 yards in the second quarter.

"Caleb went up to catch the ball on the first touchdown," said Nickell, who completed 5 of 10 passes for 160 yards.

Reams also ran 57 yards into the end zone on an end-around in the third quarter.

Nickell threw a 54-yard touchdown pass to Erik Kupraitis, while Jalen Powe scored on a 57-yard pun return and Max Kravitz ran in from 47 yards out for the Blue Devils' final score.
