Elgin names Mason new football coach

Elgin High School has named Anthony Mason as its new head football coach.

A graduate of Bishop McNamara High School, Mason was team captain, first team All-Chicago Catholic League, and second team all-area as defensive back his senior year.

He was also a 3 year varsity letter winner in basketball and state qualifier in the triple jump.

In 2005 Mason attended Valparaiso University where he redshirted and then transferred to Northern Illinois University where he played defensive back for 3 years. At NIU he earned the MAC Commissioner's Award for academics and athletics.

Mason has held leadership positions at Plato Middle School in Chicago serving as the athletic director and PE department chair. Recently, he has been actively leading as the athletic director and PE department chair at Noble Hansberry College Prep and also the head basketball coach.

Mason will also be teaching physical education at Elgin and Abbott Middle School.

Mason will take over for Kyle Rohde, who stepped down after two seasons as head coach due to family reasons.
