Grayslake North's Gentile to miss season after torn ACL

If Grayslake North's football team is going to win its third Fox Valley Conference Fox Division championship in four years this season, it will have to do it without quarterback Merrick Gentile.

Knights coach Steve Wood confirmed that Gentile suffered a torn ACL during last Friday night's scrimmage and will be out for the season. The 6-foot, 215-pound Gentile, who's quarterbacked the Knights the last two seasons, is scheduled to have surgery Friday, Wood said.

Last season, Gentile completed 92 of 158 passes for 1,321 yards and 12 touchdowns with 4 interceptions. He also rushed for 635 yards and 10 TDs. Gentile is also a two-time all-area infielder in baseball.

As for who will replace Gentile under center, the Knights are working on it.

"Not sure yet," Wood said. "(We're) trying a couple kids out."
