Addison Trail falls to Oak Park

Addison Trail and Oak Park-River Forest came into Friday's football game with an opening-game win, but it was the Huskies despite a late start on offense who prevailed with a 35-7 win in Oak Park on Friday.

Jeremy Hunt lead the way running for 2 touchdowns and passing for a third. Jamarri Watson ran for 115 yards in 20 carries for the Huskies.

“We allowed them to come to life,” said Blazers coach Paul Parpet Jr. “I don't care who you play, you're not going to win many football games getting 2 first downs in a game. I'm going to take the blame for that because I didn't get them ready. And that was the difference in the game.

“It wasn't that they were 28 points better than us. It was the fact that we couldn't get anything going on offense. Our defense was out on the field all night. Eventually their athletes took over the game.”

Following a scoreless first quarter, the Blazers (1-1) scored in the second quarter. Ryan Zygowicz tossed a 23-yard pass to Christopher Long to the 1-yard line where Mike Hundley ran the ball in to give the Blazers a 7-0 lead.

The Huskies (2-0) struggled through the first half but scored on its last two possessions of the half. Hunt hit Davlon Talbert for a 17-yard gain to the 8-yard line where he ran the ball in for 8 yards to tie the game.

Hunt hit Talbert with for 13 yards and a touchdown to cap the next possession to take a 14-7 lead into the half. The Huskies broke away in the third quarter with on 12-yard run by Antonio Cannon and a 1-yard run by Hunt to give the Huskies a 28-7 lead.

“A lot of our bread and butter was running plays,” Hundley said. “We base our offense off it and we couldn't get anything going. We were still in it, but we let it go and they took it away in the second half. It was a dogfight until then.”
