Football: Tricase, Ihry earn Week 4 MVP honors

Glenbard North junior running back Vittoria Tricase and Waubonsie Valley senior linebacker Max Ihry have earned Daily Herald MVP honors for their performances in Week 4 of the high school football season.

OFFENSE

Vittorio Tricase, Glenbard North: The 5-foot-7, 175-pound running back helped slam the door shut in a 41-17 nonconference victory over previously unbeaten Glenbard East. The junior tallied fourth-quarter touchdown runs of 45, 7 and 3 yards. Tricase finished with 300 yards rushing on 28 carries, an average of 10.7 yards a carry.

Sean Chambers, Geneva: Two earlier interceptions didn't stop Geneva's quarterback from delivering in the clutch. With his Vikings trailing undefeated St. Charles North 41-35 with three minutes left, the 6-foot-3, 215-pound senior directed a 75-yard march that included a fourth-and-10 pass to Jack Wassel and was capped by a 15-yard scoring strike to Ryan Skibinski that tied the game with 29 seconds left. Chambers completed 17 of 33 passes for 296 yards and 3 touchdowns and rushed for 59 yards in a 42-41 victory that improved Geneva to 4-0.

Kevin Lacosse, Rolling Meadows: This junior running back was the main force in a Rolling Meadows rushing attack which picked up nearly 300 yards on the ground in a 33-26 win against Hoffman Estates. Lacosse finished with 172 yards on 29 carries with touchdown runs of 2, 8 and 29 yards.

Jalin Tolbert, Warren: The junior wide receiver with the long dreadlocks made sure Mundelein had a long night. He caught 3 passes, all for touchdowns, as the Blue Devils won 63-20 to hand the visitors their first loss of the season. Tolbert's TDs covered 55, 44 and 50 yards.

DEFENSE

Max Ihry, Waubonsie Valley: The 6-foot, 205-pound senior powered his team on both sides of the ball in the Warriors' 15-14 DuPage Valley Conference win over Naperville Central. At middle linebacker the hard-hitting Ihry made 18 tackles, 2 for loss, with a sack. At tailback he scored on 36- and 3-yard runs among 107 yards rushing.

Charlie Bourbon, Stevenson: On a slippery night when most football games were canceled due to storms, the junior defensive back showed off sticky hands. His 2 interceptions helped lead the way for a defense that didn't allow a second-half touchdown, as the Patriots beat Wauconda 20-7.

Daniel Galovich, Schaumburg: This junior defensive back provided a pair of turning points in Schaumburg's win at Elk Grove. With the Saxons trailing 7-0, Galovich intercepted a pair of passes in the second quarter; both picks led to touchdowns to give Schaumburg the lead on its way to a 35-13 victory.

Jake Painter, Streamwood: A three-year varsity performer, this middle linebacker helped lead the Sabres (2-2) to a 21-0 victory by terrorizing Larkin ball carriers. The 5-foot-10, 210-pound senior notched a team-best 14 tackles, including a tackle for loss and 3 sacks, in Streamwood's first shutout since 2012. Painter's shining moment came just before halftime. With his team leading 14-0 and Larkin threatening inside the 5 with seconds to play, Painter burst through the line and registered a sack that ended the half and kept the Royals off the scoreboard.
