Lake Forest has the answers against Mundelein

Not even a 242-yard, 4-touchdown rushing effort from Colten Fisher could tame Lake Forest's dynamic duo.

Danny Carollo played the role of Mr. Automatic under center, while top target Quinn Julian got it done with four scores in a variety of roles as Lake Forest rolled over Mundelein 61-28 in North Suburban Lake action Friday at Varsity Field.

Carollo completed 15 of 16 for 177 yards and 4 touchdowns, 2 of which landed into the hands of Julian, who added scores from the ground and special teams on the night.

"We're really deep at the running back position and wideout position," said Carollo, whose team tallied 392 total offensive yards. "If anyone's open, I'll get them the ball and they'll make a play. Quinn gave us a lot of momentum and it kept us going."

At first, the visiting Mustangs (3-2, 0-2 NSC Lake) had Lake Forest (3-2, 1-2 NSC Lake) where they wanted reeling off a 72-yard opening drive with a couple of big completions before Fisher snuck into the end-zone for the first of his four scores.

From there it was statement time for Lake Forest. Seeking their first conference win of the year on homecoming night, the Scouts struck quick and capitalized on mistakes.

First it was an 89-yard kick return score from Julian on Lake Forest's first special teams touch.

"There was good blocking on that," said Julian. "We haven't really had one go deep. There was a couple of big hits and it just opened up for me. I got what I could and it was needed to get the momentum back."

Then, after holding the visitors to an eight-yard punt, Carollo guided the team with a 20-yard run before touching Patrick Ryan from 7 yards out to take a lead that wouldn't be relinquished.

A second poor punt placed Lake Forest at the opposition's 48 and Julian took a grab from Carollo and raced 24 yards to the house to make it a two-score game.

Mundelein made it a game on the very next offensive play as Fisher sped through the defense for a 69-yard run to make it a 7-point game entering the second quarter.

The home team wasn't phased, using a second connection from Carollo to Julian from 39 yards to begin what would lead to end-zone trips on five consecutive offensive possessions to build a 40-point edge and coast to victory.

"We've known each other a really long time - 7-11 is always open, we like to say," Julian added noting the numbers of the Lake Forest duo.

Aside from Carollo and Julian, Christopher Meng and Evan Swint (4-89) added ground scores, while Charles Reinkemeyer hit Reed Thomas with a passing score for Lake Forest. Defensively, Jaxon Mills' two sacks and eight tackles led the game for the Scouts.

Fisher capped the game with rushing scores from 67 and 3 to tighten the final tally for Mundelein.

"Their defense adjusted and played us really well," said Mundelin signal-caller Fisher, who also added 7 of 17 for 78 yards through the air. "We had some good blocking up front and I made a few guys miss, but they played us really well."

The Mustangs visit Zion-Benton next Friday, while Lake Forest hosts Grant.
