Jarosz's big finale helps Prospect past Buffalo Grove

It was unfortunate that both Prospect running back Bobby Jarosz and Buffalo Grove quarterback Trey Cervantes could not both have walked of the Bison football field as winners.

Jarosz and the Knights held the upper hand in both teams' finale in a 41-14 victory over Buffalo Grove in the Mid-Suburban East.

The game also marked the end of Buffalo Grove's Mike DiMatteo career as head coach.

"I think I leave the program in good shape," said DiMatteo. "The school administration has been great but I have to hang up my cleats due to some health issues. I will still stay on teaching."

Jarosz finished a three-year varsity career by scoring 3 touchdowns in the first half as Prospect (3-6, 2-3) led 27-6 at halftime and coasted.

Jarosz finsihed the night with 234 yards in 28 attempts.

"It was great to finish like this," said Jarosz. "Our offensive line really came together for this game. They took care of me and I took care of them. They have really busted their buts for this team. They blocked and I ran forward. We just wanted to win this one.

"We could have been a better team but we lacked some stuff at times."

After a missed field goal attempt by the Bison (1-8, 0-5) on their initial drive, the Knights went 80 yards in 12 plays to score on Jarosz's 12-yard run for a 6-0 lead as the quarter ended.

Jarosz's 63-yard run with 10:29 left in the second quarter gave the Knights a 13-0 lead. The score came on the first play following a Bison punt.

A blocked punt by junior Drew Compton at the Bison 43 set up Dane Cecala's 35-yard run up the middle for a 20-0 lead with 6:56 left in the first half.

Cervantes put the Bison on the board with a 4-yard run with 4:36 left in the half to cut the lead to 20-6.

Jarosz scored from the 3 with :23 left in the half to build a 27-6 lead, and the Bison could ot recover.

"Bobby had a real nice game," said Prospect coach Mike Sebestyen. "I'm really happy for him and Matt Drew. It's been great to watch them develop over the past three years. I can't say enough about our offensive line this season. We had to use eight different linemen. They really helped get the job done. I think we have a good future next season with the returnees."

Drew scored on the second play of the third quarter on a 58-yard run, giving him 125 yards in 12 attempts. Cecala also had packed some punch with 8 rushes for 71 yards.

Drew threw for a 6-yard touchdown pass, his only completion of three to Kyle Zielsinski. Kicker Jeremy Potratz kicked six extra points.

Prospect finished with 436 rushing yards.

The other Bison score came in the third quarter when Cervantes pitched the ball to Zack Sheasby, who then threw a 41-yard option pass to Nolan Fortman.

Cervantes was 12-of-27 passing with a interception for 210 yards, giving him 2,092 yards for the season.

Jimmy Trieb caught 6 passes for 134 yards.

"At times Trey was our only offensive threat that we had," said DiMatteo. "Whoever takes over for me next year will have a tough job replacing him."
