St. Edward game moved to Geneva

With rain predicted later this afternoon and through the night, St. Edward High School has announced its football games against Elmwood Park tonight will be played at Geneva's Burgess Field.

St. Edward had hoped to play its final regular season game at its own Greg True Field, which has recently been re-sodded after a chemical mix up in late August killed all the grass on the field. The Green Wave have not played a home game since Week 2 of the season.

Scotts lawn care company donated the product and labor to repair the field and had planned a 3-hour tailtage party today that included an appearance by former Chicago Bears All-Pro linebacker Brian Urlacher. St. Edward athletic director PJ White said Urlacher will still appear at 3 p.m. and speak to the Green Wave players.

"The field looks great but if it gets any kind of water on it, it might not be safe and it would destroy the field to play two games on it in the rain," White said. "Scotts ergonomist came and looked at it and said not to play on it if it rains and I agreed."

The sophomore game at Geneva will begin at 5 p.m. and the varsity game at 7 p.m.
