Plenty of next-level attention for Prospect product Frasco at Augustana

Sam Frasco's football career at Augustana apparently wasn't a secret to those involved in the game on Sunday afternoons.

A story in the Quad City Times reported the senior quarterback from Prospect High School had a meeting with members of the NFL's Arizona Cardinals organization.

Frasco was recently named offensive player of the year in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin.

"It's an honor to be named that and I have to give credit to (head coach Steve Bell) and the staff and the rest of the team, definitely the O-line and the receivers for having a great year this year and hopefully that builds for the future," Frasco said in the Quad City Times. "Even though our record wasn't as promising as what we wanted, I feel really happy leaving Augustana football right now in the state that it's in. This award at the end is kind of the topping on the cake."

Frasco rushed for 1,172 yards and 18 touchdowns this season and his 7.9 yards per carry average ranked second in the nation. Only three quarterbacks at the Division III level rushed for more yards.

The 1,172 rushing yards are eighth-most in a single season at Augustana and most ever for a quarterback.

As a passer, Frasco had a 62.2 percent completion rate (158-of254) and threw for 1,825 yards (third most in school history) and 17 touchdowns.

He finished his career 41 yards shy of breaking former NFL MVP Ken Anderson's career mark for total yards in school history.

For the season, he set a school record for total offense with 2,997 yards.

His 17 touchdown passes came within 3 of Ken Anderson's single-season school record.

Frasco came up just 73 yards shy of Anderson's career total offense record (6,679) and ended up third in career passing yards (3,971) and eighth in rushing yards (2,635) at Augustana. He scored 36 career touchdowns and ranks as the sixth-leading scorer in school history with 216 points.

• Augustana junior linebacker Jack Asquini (Buffalo Grove) led the Vikings' defense with 108 tackles. He had a team-high 69 assists and tied classmate Frank Kalble (Hersey) for the team lead in solo stops with 39. Kalble played through a serious knee injury and was second on the team with 75 tackles despite missing two games.

• Washington University (St. Louis) junior wide receiver Kevin Hammarlund (St. Viator) was the Bears' leading receiver (9 receptions, 88 yards) in a 37-23 season ending win over the University of Chicago.

The win gave Washington a share of the University Athletic Association title as well as the Founders Cup.

Hammarlund led the UAA and Southern Athletic conference (SAA affiliate member) in total receiving yards and yards per game. In total catches, he was first in the SAA and 2nd in the UAA, ending with 64 catches for 957 yards and 9 touchdowns.

He also finished the season ranked 36th among D-III receivers and has now moved into third place in Washington's history with 134 career catches. He is also seventh with 1,741 total career receiving yards.

Harris hits thirty

Carthage College sophomore guard Morgan Harris (Hersey) tossed home a career-high 30 points as the Lady Reds improved to 3-0 with a 64-58 victory over Loras College.

It was the second straight game in which Harris set a new career high. She had previously scored 24 against Nebraska Wesleyan.

Harris finished her 30-point night, shooting 10-of-15 from the field, 3-of-5 from three-point land and 7-of-7 at the free throw line with 8 rebounds.

Against Nebraska Wesleyan, Harris was 12-of-15 from the free throw line. She had a career-high 10 rebounds for her first double-double performance. Her team-high 6 assists were the second most in her career.

Bellinger signs

Schaumburg pitcher Jack Bellinger recently signed a letter of intent with Illinois State.

"Jack has been a dominant force on the mound for us over the last two seasons and will continue to be our workhorse as our opening-day pitcher," said Saxons coach Cal Seeley. "Jack has demonstrated maturity, poise, and a true understanding of the game, start after start. His ability to control pitches in any count makes him a dangerous pitcher to offensive players as he has nearly a 4:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

"We are very proud and excited for Jack as he makes his transition to the Illinois State University baseball program."

North Central senior captain and offensive lineman Pat Bolger (Barrington) was named to the first team of the All-College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (he also made the first team in 2014).

North Central senior defensive back Richard Zirngibl (Buffalo Grove) was also first team All-CCIW. He started all 10 games at safety and ranked second on the team with 67 tackles (44 solo), including 7 tackles for loss and three quarterback sacks.

Zirngibl shared team lead with 3 interceptions and he broke up three other pass attempts.

Koch took 58th with a time of 25:14.7. The appearance at nationals was the first for Augustana since 2008 and the 20th-place finish (461 points) was the program's best since taking 15th in 2007.

The next night, he turned aside 19 shots while again giving up only one goal in another 2-1 victory.
