Takeaways from Saturday's state football finals

1. Postseason prowess:

Glenbard West running back Sam Brodner set multiple Class 7A playoff records: carries (50) and touchdowns (6) in a playoff game as well as rushing yards (264) in a final. He tied the record for touchdowns (4) in a final.

2. Marginal results:

Loyola's 41-0 victory over Marist in the Class 8A final marked the fifth title game of the weekend ending with a running clock. The 2A, 3A, 4A and 5A games also had at least a 40-point margin.

3. Solid on all levels:

Montini has now won state football titles at the Class 4A (2004), 5A (2009-12) and 6A levels. The Broncos are slotted to remain in Class 6A for the 2016 season.

4. Familiar face:

With Nazareth's 42-21 Class 5A victory, Tim Racki joins Montini coach Chris Andriano among seven coaches to have won at least six titles. Racki led Driscoll to titles from 2001-04 and also Nazareth's 2014 title.

5. Start the clock:

The 2016 football season kicks off Aug. 26, just 270 days away. Practice begins Aug. 8.
