Friday night takeaways

1. New look Falcons

Wheaton North wanted to emphasize the run more this season, and it started Friday with 34 total carries. Junior running back Sam Singleton had 25 carries - including 10 straight on the Falcons' final scoring drive - for 134 yards and 4 touchdowns.

2. Stepping up

Neuqua Valley beat Metea Valley 35-7 while resting Owen Piche and limiting Isaiah Robertson. A ground game headed by Greg McClellan, Cameron Raupach and Griffen Philgren ran for 233 of Neuqua's 407 yards of offense.

3. Just finish

On a night when lightning threatened to put a stop to games and athletic directors looked nervously at the skies, every area game went on without delay.

4. Finally

Last time IC Catholic Prep hosted Bishop McNamara, the Knights lost in the 2015 Class 3A semifinals. Friday's 34-0 IC victory earned revenge and also improved the Knights' mark to 1-2 in openers against McNamara.
