Glenbard South overcomes Glenbard East

In a football game full of running plays, Glenbard South ground out a win in a nonconference nailbiter at home, 28-25 against Glenbard East.

Raiders quarterback Jack Crouch shared the rushing load with T.J. Springfloat and Nick D'Ambra, who had a huge second half on both sides of the ball. Crouch ran for 3 touchdowns and threw for another.

Forcing a strip sack in the third quarter, D'Ambra gave the offense a great start at the Glenbard East 22-yard line, which set up a Crouch touchdown pass to Peter Jeske for a 28-19 Raiders lead.

"Defensively, Nick D'Ambra was playing out of his mind," said Glenbard South coach Ryan Crissey.

D'Ambra, a junior, also took a majority of the carries in the second half. Senior all-state running back Sean Cooke did not play for the Raiders (1-1) to rest a knee injury.

"It's really different to not have him there, so it changes how we have to attack teams," Crissey said about Cooke.

Gino Dalesandro stood out for Glenbard East (0-2) with 3 catches with 92 receiving yards and a fourth-quarter touchdown, the final score of the game to close the gap.

"Gino (Dalesandro) had a nice game for us on the outside. He caught a touchdown pass and had a long catch and run," said Glenbard East coach John Walters.

Rams sophomore quarterback Bret Bushka ran for a touchdown and threw for two more, while running back Jack Oberli ran for 97 yards and a touchdown.

Down by 3 points with 1:26 left in the game, the Raiders picked up a sack on a key third down, forcing the Rams to burn their final timeout.

Glenbard East failed to convert three point-after attempts throughout the game.
