Wheeling's Dennis earns acclaim from Bears

Wheeling's Jalen Dennis has been named the Bears High School All-Star for Week 9.

Dennis, a senior quarterback, threw for 412 yards and 4 touchdowns, and rushed for 89 yards and an additional touchdown during Wheeling's 40-7 victory over Hersey last Friday.

The win helped earn Wheeling its first trip to the playoffs since 2008. For the season, Dennis has thrown for a total of 1,423 yards and 9 touchdowns, and has rushed for 1,070 yards.

Each week for nine weeks, an outstanding high school football player was selected through the Bears High School All-Star program. Each of the nine players will have the opportunity to direct a $500 monetary donation to the youth football program of his choice. The nomination criteria for the program included on-field performance, community involvement and good sportsmanship.
