Grimmer, Maine West blank Streamwood

A season with high expectations for Maine West only gathered momentum on Friday.

The host Warriors rolled past Streamwood to claim a 42-0 victory in a nonconference high school football season opener.

Eli Grimmer had a terrific evening, starting the scoring with a long pick-6 from his defensive backfield spot, and later contributing a TD pass reception.

Jake Bellizzi rushed for a pair of TDs and Walter Hutt and Matt Litas also found the end zone.

"Our defense played great," said Maine West coach Jason Kradman. "Our defensive coordinator, Steve Piha, he and his staff really came up with a great gameplan, and the kids executed it really well."

Kradman praised the defensive efforts of defensive lineman Devan Tucker and linebacker Christian Garbicz for the Warriors' big effort. He also said QB George Markakis played well and that the offense "can clean up a few things, but overall had a very good night."

Even special teams came up big, as Isaiah Siem-Davis blocked a punt, kicker John Fierro was 4-for-4 on PAT kicks and punter Cory Scholler kept Streamwood pinned deep.

Kradman's team travels to Elgin for another nonconference matchup in Week 2. The Warriors will kick off at 7:30 p.m. Friday against Larkin.
