Maine West throttles Larkin

Maine West could not have asked for a much better start to the season. The Warriors dominated on both sides of the ball for a second straight week as they improved to 2-0 with a 40-13 route of Larkin at Memorial Field in Elgin on Friday night. It follows a 42-0 win over Streamwood last week.

Quarterback George Markakis threw for 3 touchdowns and ran for 2 more to drive the Warriors' high powered offense while sophomore linebacker/defensive end Isaiah Siem-Davis led the defense with 4 sacks, an interception, and a fumble recovery.

"We are really excited about the way we have started the season," Maine West coach Jason Kradman said. "Once again our defense played with its hair on fire. They really got after it. Isaiah Siem-Davis had an outstanding game. He was all over the field and would definitely get my vote for player of the week. The offensive was on point and clicking again too. We had a nice a nice tempo. George came up big time and the offensive line gave us good time to run all of our formations."

After failing to score on its first possession Maine West scored touchdowns the next four times it had the ball and led 30-0 at halftime. Markakis had touchdown runs of 3 and 4 yards. He also had touchdown passes of 12 and 14 yards to all-state tight end Matt Kentgen. Markakis completed 11 of 20 passes to 7 different receivers for 219 yards.

"It's great to be back there knowing I have so many places I can throw the ball," Markakis said. "I just have to go through my progressions and I know someone is going to be open. The offensive line does a great job of giving us time."

Kentgen was the Warriors leading receiver with 4 receptions for 61 yards.

"We have so many weapons its crazy," Kentgen said. "It really just opens up the whole field. The offensive line gives us great protection and George does a great job of delivering the ball."

Markakis added a 24-yard touchdown pass to Matt Litas in the second half. Jonathan Fierro had a 25-yard field goal.

Siem-Davis got the Warriors on the board in the first quarter with a sack in the end zone.

"I felt more comfortable out there this week," Siem-Davis said. "I'm put in a good position to blitz off the edge and I just need to read my keys."

Larkin (1-1) got on the board with a couple late touchdowns. Quarterback DJ Ball capped a 70 yard drive in the third quarter with a 3 yard touchdown run. Kindrell Morris added a 42 yard touchdown run in the 4th quarter. Morris finished with 75 yards rushing.
