Week 8: Scouting the West Suburban

Downers North (3-4) at Downers South (4-3)Game time: 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The quick hit: Looking at the records and the schedule ahead, this cross-town matchup might as well be a playoff game. Downers South's defense notched a third straight shutout last week, but that'll be tough to do against the Trojans' versatile ground game.

Glenbard West (6-1, 4-0) at Oak Park (5-2, 2-2)Game time: 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The quick hit: Since allowing 62 points in the opener, Glenbard West has allowed 39 the last six games combined. Dre Thomas plowed for tough yards in the mud last week. On a dry field look for quarterback Alex Hollensbe and receiver Alec Pierce to hook up.

Hinsdale South (5-2, 4-1) at Leyden (3-4, 2-2)Game time: 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The quick hit: The combination of Hornets quarterback Justin Kolzow and receiver Destin Talbert accounted for another 11 catches for 193 yards and 3 touchdowns last week. Iffy on playoff points, Hinsdale South can wrap up a postseason berth with a win. There's not much room for error if Leyden wants to become the first team in school history to qualify for the playoffs in back-to-back years. The Eagles need to get things going offensively after being shut out twice in their last three games while scoring just 1 touchdown during that span. Hinsdale South has won 4 of its last 5 games and is averaging nearly 30 points.

Lyons Twp. (6-1, 3-1) at Hinsdale Central (5-2, 4-1)Game time: 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The quick hit: Red Devils backup quarterback Connor Bauer had to step in for injured Matt Rush last week, which led to more Wildcat looks in the offense with Garrett Oakey behind center. With running back Luke Skokna, expect to see more focus on the run.

Morton (1-6, 1-3) at Addison Trail (2-5, 0-4)Game time: 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The quick hit: With Nick D'Ambrose out and Nick Daudelin injured during last week's game, linebacker Nick DiBernardo stepped up to lead the team in rushing. The Blazers are hopeful D'Ambrose returns for a matchup that'll come down to better line play.

Proviso East (0-7, 0-4) at Willowbrook (6-1, 4-0)Game time: 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The quick hit: A Warriors victory wraps up a share of the West Suburban Gold title, and now's not the time to be caught looking ahead. Quarterback John Taylor can methodically work down the field or get the big play in a diverse offense.

York (0-7, 0-4) at Proviso West (2-5, 0-4)Game time: 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The quick hit: With the passing game struggling, the Dukes aim to notch their first victory on the ground with running backs KeVon Robinson and Josiah Scott. Proviso West last beat the Dukes in 2012, which was the last time the Panthers reached the playoffs.
