Class 6A quarterfinal: Scouting Willowbrook at Prairie Ridge
Class 6A
No. 4 Willowbrook (10-1) at No. 1 Prairie Ridge (11-0)
Game time: 1 p.m. Saturday.
Last week: Willowbrook 29, No. 5 DeKalb 10; Prairie Ridge 17, No. 9 Cary-Grove 13.
Outlook: Willowbrook aims for its first semifinal berth since 1975 and can match the program record for wins in a season. The challenge is a Wolves team that's riding a 25-game winning streak as the defending Class 6A state champion. And then there's Prairie Ridge quarterback Samson Evans, who runs the double-wing option offense to perfection. He's thrown for only 500 yards, but this is a pounding ground game. Evans, who is headed to Iowa, has rushed for nearly 1,500 yards and 27 touchdowns; Zach Gulbranson adds another 1,000 yards and 13 scores. Jackson Willis has 650 yards and 10 scores. Last week Warriors defensive lineman Nick Rushing returned from injury, which helps shore up the run defense with fellow linemen Kevon Dobbins, Brandon Loth and Christian Washington. Willowbrook's fast-paced offense will be a handful for the Wolves. Running back Jack Jessen is closing in on 2,000 rushing yards and Chris Diaz has 774. Sikander Zafar, Jacob Entwistle and Martique Barskdale combine for 82 catches from quarterback John Taylor.
Advancement: The winner advances to the Class 6A semifinals against the winner between No. 7 Hoffman Estates and No. 14 Belvidere North.
