Fenton routs Maine East

The Fenton game plan was to run early and often inside the trenches, and the Bison performed that task to success in a 42-7 victory at Maine East.

Leading the pack in overall offense was Bison junior tailback Ethan Doliente. The junior sprinter notched a hat trick in Week 1, with three trips into the end zone while registering 166 yards rushing.

"Basically from what we saw on film, we could run it straight up the gut," Doliente said. "A lot of inside runs and a lot more (emphasis on defense). We need to come ready for Monday practice and work through the week to keep everything sharp and clean on Thursday."

Fenton introduced a no-huddle offense into its scheme and it paid off. However, Fenton didn't implement this strategy before blindsiding Maine East with a little trickery. On fourth-and-8 in its own territory in the first quarter, Fenton set up to punt. The direct snap to Doliente was a fake, and he scampered for a first down. The drive ultimately ended with a 3-yard run by Bison senior tight end James Deckert.

In Deckert's season opener the Fenton senior only carried the ball four times, but two of those carries were for touchdowns. Deckert also posted 40 rushing yards.

"I haven't played running back since sophomore year since they needed me on the offensive line," Deckert said. "(Moving forward) we need to watch film, look at our mistakes and fix whatever we can."

From the powerful running displays of Doliente and Deckert, Fenton took a comfortable lead into halftime. However, their offensive effort was not complete.

Both the Bison and the Blue Demons were reluctant to pass because of the consistent mist causing a slippery terrain.

After halftime and a Blue Demons turnover on downs, Fenton senior quarterback Kyle Cacioppo hurled a laser to slanting junior Andre Bess, who scuttled for a 30-yard score.

The Bison defensive unit performed valiantly. They forced five fumbles and recovered two of them.
