Jacobs rolls over Hampshire

Jacobs senior quarterback Anthony Wilson proved to Hampshire he can slice up a defense through the

air or on the ground.

The veteran Golden Eagles signal caller ran for 3 touchdowns and threw for 3 more in accounting for 6 touchdowns as Jacobs opened the 2018 season with an easy 50-0 win over Hampshire in Fox Valley Conference action in Algonquin Friday night.

Wilson, who completed 7 of 11 passes for 198 yards, tossed 54 and 34-yard TDs to Daniel Klein and threw a 55-yard strike to Nick Desmond. The senior ran for scores of 3, 3 and 4 yards as Jacobs (1-0, 1-0) seized control of the game with a 30-point outburst in the first quarter. Joshua Hill also figured into the passing

game with 3 catches for 55 yards including a 44-yard catch.

"We have worked really hard in the offseason," said Wilson, a 4-year varsity performer. "We thought we could throw the ball early and get some quick scores. We have some really good receivers with speed who can get open. "

Jacobs coach Bill Mitz is comfortable with Wilson engineering his offense.

"He is a 4-year varsity player with a lot of experience who is very smart," said Mitz. "He is a threat to run the ball and he does a good job in the passing game to find the open receiver. We were well prepared and got off to the start we wanted to."

The Jacobs ground game produced 238 yards on 42 carries as the Eagles amassed 436 yards of total offense and compiled 18 first downs.

With 9 players running the ball, Jacobs was led by Wilson with 67 yards and 3 scores while Jacob Mobeck carried the ball 8 times for 65 yards including a 29-yard TD run.

Jake Michels rushed for 55 yards on 9 carries.

"We had a good mix of run and pass," said Mitz. "I like our balance."

The Jacobs defense held Hampshire (0-1, 0-1) to 117 yards of total offense and 5 first downs. The Whip-Purs managed 57 yards rushing led by Jake See with 49 yards and were able to garner 60 yards through the air. Andre Allison caught 2 passes for 40 yards. while Jacobs defensive back Travis Tanner had an Interception for the winners.

"Jacobs is a very good team and they outschemed at the beginning of the game offensively and defensively," said first-year Hampshire coach Jake Brosman. "We didn't respond very well. They are a high-caliber team and they took it to us. in the first quarter. We need to move forward. and get ready for a very good Prairie Ridge team."
