Batavia's Piron, Grayslake Central's Miller earn plaudits from Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears announced Thursday that head coach Dennis Piron of Batavia has been named the Chicago Bears High School Coach of the Week for Week 2 and wide receiver Kaiden Miller of Grayslake Central was named the Chicago Bears High School All-Star of the week.

The Bears will make a $2,000 donation to the Batavia football program and direct a $500 donation to the youth football program of Miller's choice.

Piron and the Bulldogs (2-0) overcame a 13-0 halftime deficit to post a 21-13 victory at Oswego, marking Piron's 100th career win as Batavia's head coach. A graduate of Batavia, Piron has been the team's head football coach for 11 years, notching a 100-17 record and winning the state championship twice during that time. Piron also leads Batavia's INCubator Entrepreneurship Program and coaches track.

Miller, a junior wide receiver, helped lead the Rams (2-0) to a 34-33 win at Mundelein last Friday and set a single-game school record with 267 receiving yards. He scored a touchdown with 14 seconds left before Grayslake Central completed a 2-point conversion for the win. Miller also caught a Rams record-setting 96-yard touchdown and collected 7 tackles and 2 pass breakups on defense.
