Weather wins as MSL slate washes out

There was only one winner in Friday's Mid-Suburban League football games: the weather.

None of the six games on the schedule were completed Friday night, and all have been rescheduled for Saturday.

Trying again with 1 p.m. starts will be Buffalo Grove at Fremd, Hersey at Conant and Rolling Meadows at Hoffman Estates.

Barrington will resume play against Wheeling at 1:30 p.m. at Hersey, due to a scheduling conflict with Wheeling's field.

Schaumburg at Elk Grove will begin at 5 p.m.

In the only MSL game that did not at least get started Friday, Palatine will play at Prospect beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Leyden's West Suburban Conference crossover matchup against Lyons was postponed before it started and was rescheduled for 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

at Hoffman Estates: The game was halted with 11:27 left in the second quarter with Rolling Meadows leading 12-7.

The Mustangs took the opening kick off and drove 65 yards in 6 plays for a 6-0 lead with 10:18 left in the quarter. Junior running back Kevin Lacosse finished the drive with a 2 yard run. Quarterback Asher O'Hara threw a 42-yard completion on a third-and-10 at the Mustangs' 47 to help set up the score.

The Mustangs tried some trickery that backfired on the ensuing kickoff. Logan Reese came up with the ball on a pop-up kick, but the officials ruled a kick-and-catch interference. Possession went to Hoffman Estates, and after a 15 yard-penalty the ball was placed on the Mustangs' 43.

It took the Hawks 7 plays to score, on a 1-yard run running back Chady Bitre for a 7-6 lead. Bitre had a 23-yard run on the drive.

Rolling Meadows bounced right back to score on a 29-yard run by O'Hara on a third-and-11 play. The conversion kicked failed, but the Mustangs led 12-7.

The Mustangs turned the ball over at their 28 when Rolling Meadows punter Ryan Golbeck's knee touched the ground before he could get the kick away, and two snaps later play was suspended.

at Wheeling: On the Broncos' first offensive series, quarterback Johnny Davidson was intercepted by Wheeling junior Jason Shannon, who returned it 38 yards to pay dirt for a touchdown to put Wheeling up 7-0 just 47 seconds into the game.

Barrington answered with a pair of Davidson rushing touchdowns. The first was a 5-yard Davidson keeper to tie the score at 7 with 6:45 remaining in the first quarter, and the second was a Davidson 3-yard sneak with 4:03 left in the opening quarter to give Barrington a 14-7 lead.

Lightning with 1:25 remaining in the first quarter suspended play.

at Fremd: Just prior to the postponement with 3:01 left in the first quarter, Fremd senior Alex Jacobs intercepted a pass deflected by Matt McCabe and ran it back 75 yards for a touchdown to help the Vikings to a 7-0 lead against Buffalo Grove.

at Elk Grove: The Grens got the ball first against Schaumburg, and went for it on fourth-and-1 from their own 29 but came up short.

Schaumburg took over and run a couple of short-gaining running plays before the lighting hit.

Play will resume with 9:10 left in the first quarter.

at Conant: The Cougars had taken a 14-0 lead against Hersey when play was suspended with about 6½ minutes left in the second quarter.
