West Suburban Week 6: Addison Trail faces Hinsdale South in pivotal game

Addison Trail (3-2, 2-1) at Hinsdale South (3-2, 2-1)

Game time: 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Last week: Addison Trail 14, Leyden 13; Hinsdale South 42, Proviso East 0.

Last year: Addison Trail 20, Hinsdale South 16.

Even though six of the seven Gold teams still have title hopes with one league loss, this game will go a long way in determining whether Addison Trail claims at least a share of its second straight championship or Hinsdale South wins its first since 2005. Last week the Blazers had their best game in terms of total yardage but six red-zone holding penalties kept them from producing on the scoreboard. Running back Mike Hundley has carried the load while rushing for 527 yards and 6 touchdowns, but the Blazers still need the passing balance provided by quarterback Ryan Zygowicz. Offensive lineman Andrew Lopez returns from injury this week in perfect time to help offset the Hornets' talented defensive line led by Michigan State-bound Josh King. Hinsdale South's been pretty well balanced with first-year starting quarterback Sean McCormack and running back Marcus Curry. Linebackers Zach Atiyeh and sophomore Nick DiBernardo anchor Addison Trail's defense.

Next week: Addison Trail at Morton; Hinsdale South at Leyden.

Downers Grove South (2-3, 2-1) at Leyden (2-3, 1-1)

When: Friday, 7:30 p.m.

Last year: Downers Grove South 14, Leyden 10

Leyden gambled but came up just a little short last week in their OT loss, failing on a 2-point conversion at the end of the game. Still, the Eagles have things flying high thanks to the play of David DeMarais, who rushed for 137 yards last week. The Eagles' defense has been stout all season, allowing just under 13 points per game. Downers Grove South has won its last 2 after opening the season with 3 consecutive losses. Leyden has beaten Downers Grove South just once in their last 10 meetings, with that win coming in 2012.

Lyons Twp. (4-1, 1-1) at Downers Grove North (2-3, 0-3)

Game time: 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The quick hit: After losing last week by a combined score of 79-20, both squads look to get back in the win column. Trojans running back Connor Olson returned from injury and rushed for 54 yards last week. Quinn McAnally threw for 95 yards and a score.

Oak Park (5-0, 2-0) at York (2-3, 0-2)

Game time: 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The quick hit: Last week's WSC crossover win over Willowbrook gave a big boost to York's still thriving playoff hopes. Quarterback Johnny DiCanio's become a crucial part of the Dukes' offense. Against Oak Park he had a team-high 15 carries for 75 yards.

Willowbrook (2-3, 1-1) at Morton (1-4, 1-1)

Game time: 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The quick hit: Willowbrook aims to distance itself from a disappointing loss to York. The Warriors will get the ground game moving with running back Jack Jessen and lineman Billy Devens. Morton counters with sophomore running back Greg Hoard.
