McHenry District 156 schools to remain closed Monday
McHenry High School District 156 schools will remain closed Monday, regardless of the outcome of Sunday's negotiations between the school board and the teachers union.
The district's campuses were closed for its 2,550 students last Thursday and Friday after negotiations broke down early Thursday.
After failing to reach a contract agreement Friday, the two parties resumed negotiations at 1 p.m. Sunday. As of 10 p.m., no updates were available, said Heidie Dunn, spokeswoman for the McHenry County High School Educators Association.
School board representatives could not be reached for comment.
During discussions, both sides did agree to cancel school Monday, she said.
If an agreement is reached, the union members would first have to ratify it, she said.
"As it is so late in the evening, we cannot present our members with a reasonable enough time frame for consideration," according to a post on the union's Facebook page. Dunn said a vote would likely take place Monday.
If the two parties don't come to an agreement, however, "we'll be back on the picket line," Dunn said.
