Week 9: Scouting the Chicago Catholic

Montini (5-3, 2-1) at St. Francis (1-7, 0-3)Game time: 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The quick hit: Montini mistakes scuttled a narrower contest than Mt. Carmel's 35-18 win indicated. The Broncos return big Mike McNicholas to the offensive line. St. Francis gives linebacker Nico Rendina a start at tailback and Jacob Goddard a crack at receiver.

St. Joseph (3-5) at Aurora Christian (4-4) Game time: 7:30 p.m. Friday

The quick hit: The Eagles should finish with 40-plus playoff points so a victory in this Chicago Catholic League crossover likely gets them into the Class 2A playoffs. The Chargers were eliminated from playoff consideration last week with a 27-21 loss to Leo (2-6).

Marmion (5-3) at St. Rita (6-2) Game time: 7:30 p.m. Friday

The quick hit: Marmion figures to finish with between 41-43 playoff points so the Cadets are going to be in the Class 6A postseason field win or lose. The goal is to get through Week 9 healthy as the 33-man roster takes on 70-strong St. Rita. "Games like these are going to prepare us for the playoffs if we can just get to the playoffs healthy," Marmion coach Dan Thorpe said.
