Prospect's Moeller earns accolades from Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears announced Thursday that senior quarterback/cornerback Alex "Gary" Moeller of Prospect was named the Chicago Bears High School All-Star for Week 3. Jon McLaughlin of Crystal Lake Central has been named the Coach of the Week.

The Bears will make a $2,000 donation to the Crystal Lake Central football program and direct a $500 donation to the youth football program of Moeller's choice.

Moeller ran for a touchdown, threw for four more and ran back an interception with under four minutes remaining in the game to help Prospect (3-0) beat Hersey (2-1) 49-29 last Friday. The win marked their first over the Huskies since 2012. Moeller initially started his high school career as a cornerback before transitioning into the quarterback position in 2019. Prospect, who is now ranked No. 10 on the AP's Class 7A list, will play at Rolling Meadows (1-2) on Friday.

McLaughlin led the Tigers (3-0) to a 14-13 overtime victory on Friday vs. Prairie Ridge (2-1). The Wolves were ranked No. 2 in Class 6A at the time. The win marked Crystal Lake Central's first over Prairie Ridge since 2012 and helped push it into the No. 10 spot on the AP's Class 6A list this week. McLaughlin was the Tigers' head coach from 2004-09 and returned in 2015; he is also a Social Science teacher. Crystal Lake Central will host McHenry (0-2) on Friday in a Fox Valley Conference matchup.
