Second-round football playoff previews

After one week of the Illinois High School Association football playoffs, the field was pared to 128 teams from 256 - with 16 teams remaining in each of the eight classes.

Winners included Class 8A qualifiers Glenbrook South and Loyola.

Here is a quick look at how they did, and their foes this week.

No. 1 Loyola Academy (10-0) at No. 17 Naperville Central (7-3)

Time: 1 p.m. Saturday.

Sneak peek: No. 32 seed Downers Grove South was no match for the Ramblers. Loyola doubled the visitors' yardage, 359-156, and initiated a running clock late in the third quarter on Danny Collins' 11-yard touchdown run. Jake Stearney passed for 2 touchdowns and Mike Regan ran for 2. No. 17 seed or not, Ramblers coach John Holecek has no illusions about Naperville Central, which beat No. 16 Naperville North 28-16. Receiver Reggie Fleurima is a Northwestern recruit who last week returned a punt 49 yards for a touchdown. Redhawks quarterback Owen Prucha added 194 yards rushing and touchdowns running and passing. The last team with 3 losses to win a state title? Loyola in 2018.

Advancement: The winner moves to the Class 8A quarterfinals against the winner between No. 9 Lincoln-Way East (8-2) at No. 25 Minooka (6-4).

No. 10 Glenbrook South (8-2) at No. 7 Hinsdale Central (9-1)

Time: 2 p.m. Saturday.

Sneak peek: Beating No. 23 seed O'Fallon 34-6 in its playoff opener, Glenbrook South won its first playoff game since 2011. The Titans seek their first quarterfinal appearance since 2009. Last week they advanced with the recipe Coach Dave Schoenwetter has used all season - battering teams with running backs Matt Burda and Will Collins. Burda ran for 119 yards, 2 touchdowns; Collins ran for 98 yards, 3 touchdowns. Defensive end Tommy Corbett made 12 tackles and as a unit the defense made 9 tackles for loss. Hinsdale Central beat No. 26 Sandburg 41-15. Steeled by the rugged West Suburban Silver Conference, the Red Devils defense recorded 7 sacks and held Sandburg to minus-57 yards rushing.

Advancement: The winner moves to the Class 8A quarterfinals against the winner between No. 2 South Elgin (10-0) at No. 18 Marist (7-3).
