Week 1: Scouting the Chicago Catholic
Hyde Park at MontiniGame time: 7:30 p.m. Friday.
The quick hit: After past season openers against Maine South and Sacred Heart-Griffin, this one won't have the usual heft. That may aid Montini before its long grind, by both helping solidify contested spots and easing the emotions of new coach Mike Bukovsky.
St. Francis at ArgoGame time: 7 p.m. Friday.
The quick hit: A new opener for St. Francis, and a fresh start. Out of the South Suburban Red, Argo was 1-8 last season, same as St. Francis. Look for Spartans junior Joe Lang to affect the game on offense, defense and possibly returning both kickoffs and punts.
Aurora Christian at Aurora Central Catholic Game time: 7:30 p.m. Friday.
The quick hit: Forget the bus. The Eagles could walk to this backyard brawl between Aurora private schools located just 2.1 miles apart. ACC won last year's opener between these schools 22-9 and went on to win 9 games. Chicago Catholic League White unanimous MVP Drew Clippert is among seven returning offensive starters for Aurora Christian.
Chicago Phoenix at MarmionGame time: 7:30 p.m. Friday at Fichtel Field
The quick hit: The Cadets have new faces at several positions but the offense should enjoy a level of continuity with the return of 6-foot-3, 225-pound quarterback Brandon McPherson, running back Zach Urwiler and center Jacob Baxa (6-5, 255), all seniors.
