St. Viator opens ESCC play with win at Marian

St. Viator's football team bounced back from a disappointing OT loss in Week 2 with a decisive win in Week 3.

The Lions topped host Marian Catholic 51-14 in Chicago Heights, making it four straight against the Spartans and a victory in this season's East Suburban Catholic Conference opener.

St. Viator put up 28 points in the first quarter, getting a 35-yard TD pass from Bryce Hellgeth to Kyle Pearce, a 34-yard run from Jack Scislowski and two scores from Elijah Black - an 83-yard punt return, plus a 50-yard run.

Hellgeth booted 3 field goals in the second quarter, from 41, 20 and 33 yards.

Black added another long score, this one an 87-yard kickoff return, in the third quarter.

St. Viator (2-1) outgained Marian Catholic 348-266.

The Spartans dropped to 0-3.

In Week 4, St. Viator hosts Benet Academy in a key Friday night ESCC matchup.
